Scaffold Towers

A scaffold tower (sometimes called an access tower or scaffolding tower) can be used instead of a ladder when you need to work at height for a long time. One of the biggest advantages of a scaffold tower is the large work platform, which can comfortably accommodate a worker and their tools.

Scaffold towers are also more stable than ladders, particularly when working at height for extended periods. The tower's sturdy construction offers outstanding stability, and the large work platform gives you more space to move around.

A scaffold tower (sometimes called an access tower or scaffolding tower) can...

Another advantage of scaffold towers is that they are self-supporting, so they can be positioned in a wide variety of different locations. This also eliminates the risk of slipping, making scaffold towers a practical and safe solution for working at height. We work with trusted manufacturers like Lyte and Zarges to bring you the very best scaffold towers for industrial, trade and DIY use. What is a scaffold tower?

A scaffold tower is a raised structure with one or more platforms for working at height.

Like ladders, scaffolding towers enable workers to access high places. But a scaffold tower is more stable than a ladder, and the spacious work platform gives you more room to move about and put down tools that you're not currently using. This means you can work comfortably all day long (whereas the HSE's ladder safety guidance advises against staying up a ladder for more than 30 minutes at a time).

Here are some other reasons to choose a scaffold tower over a ladder...

  • Scaffold towers boast large, slip-resistant work platforms that can support multiple workers at once.

  • Scaffold towers are freestanding and self-supporting, so they don't need to lean against a wall or building.

  • Greater freedom of movement means you won't have to keep repositioning your access tower once it's set up.

If you have a DIY or construction job coming up that will require you to work at height for longer than 30 minutes, we think you’ll find our range of scaffold towers very useful.

Frequently asked questions

There are a number of different conditions that can make it unsafe to use a scaffold tower. Such conditions include:

  • High winds
  • Broken or missing parts
  • As a support for ladders
  • Beneath overhead obstructions (e.g. powerlines)
  • Overloaded

Yes, it can be safe to use a scaffold tower on uneven ground, but only if it is assembled appropriately. First, you must select an adjustable scaffold tower that has legs that can be adjusted to fit the different heights of the surface you’re working on.

If you’d like to find out more about any of our scaffold towers and which ones are best suited to your working environment, reach out and contact us today. A member of our customer service team will be more than happy to talk through the various options with you and help you find the perfect scaffold tower.

The platform height is the height of the space where you physically stand, whereas the working height is your estimated reach. The working height is based on the reach of the person using the equipment, usually covering around 2m height (with arms up for full reach).

While we offer a wide range of scaffold towers for both trade and domestic use, not everyone can build a scaffold tower. Domestic scaffold towers come with step-by-step instructions to help you build them safely, but if you are ever unsure, you should seek the help of a trained professional.

Trade or professional scaffold towers should only be built by trained and competent people. The risks involved with building a scaffold tower incorrectly are severe, so you should not attempt to build a scaffold tower without the necessary guidance.
